Overseas FAQ’s
When should I contact a moving company?
Before calling a moving company to give you a quote, decide what will be given away or sold and any items that you may want to put into storage.
Call the overseas moving company approximately 7 – 10 weeks prior to your moving date. This will allow you enough time to ensure your paperwork (work visa, inoculations etc.) are in order. It is best to check with the Foreign Consulate for the country you are moving to for the documentation requirements at: www.embassy-worldwide.com
Note that travel papers, passports, medical documentation, marriage certificate, adoption papers, valuables, jewellery and school records should be taken with you on the plane and not packed in your shipment.
What items should not be moved overseas?
- Hazardous materials such as paint, aerosol cans, gas cans, corrosives, explosives or anything flammable
- Wood, bricks, rocks, cement or soil
- Firearms and ammunition
- Plants
- Outdoor furniture may have soil on it and must be thoroughly cleaned before transport
Is everything included in the moving quote?
This will depend upon the services you require. A door-to-door move will include all the charges. A door-to-port move will include the charges up to the port of entry into the destination country. Please be careful when comparing quotes to ensure each moving company has included the same services. Note that you will be responsible for charges at destination such as customs duties and taxes that may apply to the importation of your shipment.
Is there an insurance option available?
Yes, Coburn’s Worldwide can provide All Risk Transit Insurance covering personal effects, private passenger vehicles, boats and motorcycles. The pricing for insurance will be shown separately on your estimate and will be based on the value you declare.
Who will deliver my household goods to me?
Coburn’s Worldwide has a network of overseas moving companies selected for their expertise with household goods. We will provide you with the name and contact information of our overseas representative. Once you arrive in the destination country, contact them immediately in case they need further documentation from you. |
